OUR METHODS

SHOULDER ARTHROSCOPY

It is a surgery in which a small camera called an arthroscope is used to examine or repair the tissues in or around the shoulder joint to be treated. The arthroscope is inserted through a small incision in the skin.

Description The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and their tendons that form a cuff over the shoulder joint. These muscles and tendons support the arm at the shoulder joint and help the shoulder move in different directions. The tendons in the rotator cuff can tear when overloaded or injured.

Depending on your case, you will probably receive general anesthesia before this surgery. This means that you will be unconscious and will not be able to feel any pain. You may also have a local anesthetic. Your arm and shoulder area will be numbed so that you will not feel any kind of shoulder pain. If you receive regional anesthesia, you will also be given medicine to make you very drowsy during the operation.

During the procedure:

Insert the arthroscope into the shoulder through a tiny incision. The arthroscope is connected to a video monitor in the operating room.

All tissues of the shoulder joint in the area above the joint are inspected. These tissues include cartilage, bones, tendons, and ligaments to detect any additional injury.

General anesthesia. You will be asleep and will not feel pain.

Any damaged tissue is repaired. To do this, the surgeon makes 1 to 3 smaller incisions through which he inserts other instruments. A tear in a muscle, tendon, or cartilage is repaired. Any damaged tissue is removed.

Rotator cuff repair:

The edges of the muscles are brought together. The tendon is attached to the bone with sutures.

Small rivets (called suture anchors) are often used to help secure the tendon to the bone.

The anchors can be made of metal or plastic and do not need to be removed after surgery.
